Pena Palace in Sintra has a new store, a new restaurant and a new cafeteria
Pena Palace is the most visited tourist attraction in Portugal. Every year 780.000 people are drawn to this unique, romantic place in Sintra. Recently all the commercial spaces reopened totally renovated. Considering the depth of the renovation, it's accurate to say that Pena Palace now has a new store, a new restaurant and a new cafeteria.
XIX century stables were converted into the store, the servants quarters became the restaurant and the royal pantry is now a cafeteria. All this transformations took place in the nineties but recently the improvements were considerable.
The cafeteria works as a self-service but where the customers get the proper assistance, making sure the experience is a pleasant one. Up in the terrace, besides a breathtaking panoramic view, there's a bar serving drinks and light meals.
Another improvement in the Pena Palace are the elevators (lifts), making the life of all of those people with reduced mobility, much easier.
Also, the transportation between the Pena Park entrance and the Pena Palace is now covered by three hybrid buses, keeping the pollution levels at a absolute minimum.
Pena, an ideal place to photograph
Both Pena Palace and Park are filled with amazing details to photograph. Unfortunately, very common in tourist attractions, the light is not always the best. It depends on the time of the year, but usually the park opens after the best light and closes before it returns. Anyway, with a little persistency and preferably without having friends and family pushing you to hurry up, it's always possible to take interesting shots, specially considering how much you have to work with.
Sintra inspires photographers to think outside he box, challenges them to get out of their comfort zone and that's when special photos happen. Once the visitor gets home, out of all of the travel images, it might just be that the ones taken in Sintra, are everybody's favourites.
